I am delighted that my hospital is linked to the Regional Hospital in Hoima as we have seen so many benefits from the partnership. Many staff have visited Hoima and learnt so much from their colleagues in Uganda, including the need to be thankful for all the specialist equipment and help they can call on in the NHS! Our objective from this partnership is to enable our skilled staff to share their knowledge and expertise with their colleagues in Hoima so that they leave a lasting impact that hopefully contributes to the health and well-being of the local community served by Hoima hospital.

Hoima Regional Referral Hospital

Hoima Regional Referral Hospital is the referral hospital for 7 districts namely Masindi, Buliisa, Kiryandongo, Kyankwanzi, Kiboga, Kibaale and Hoima. The region has about two million people. The health care system in this region is weak and functioning sub-optimally due to a number of challenges. All health units are understaffed to handle the heavy patient load. However we can do better with the available resources.

This partnership is one of the best things happening to the region and can help improve our services. This has already started happening.

In May 2007, Jill Pellet, Senior Manager and Nigel Rossiter, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon visited Hoima to explore the possibility of Basingstoke & North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust working with Hoima Regional Referral Hospital to establish a link between our two units. This was followed by a very successful return visit to Basingstoke by three team members from Hoima, the Medical Superintendent, Senior Principal Nursing Officer and the Administrator in February 2008.
